Sangkuriang: The Tourism Potential of Folklore in the Bandung Basin
Main Article Content
Abstract
‘Sangkuriang’ has become a folktale inherent in the Sundanese people; its presence as a medium for education, entertainment, social, and culture has also encouraged tourism in Mount Tangkuban Parahu. Several settings in the story of ‘Sangkuriang’ are believed to be related to places in the Bandung Basin Area that still exist today. Exploration of places associated with this tragic romance story must be done to map tourism potential and develop tourism marketing strategies, especially for tourist attractions spread across the Bandung Basin Area related to ‘Sangkuriang.’ Exploration was carried out using literature studies and interviews with several informants. Field observations were conducted to observe the potential for tourism in the area. Exploration was used as a reference when conducting observations and interviews with research objects using secondary data. Tourist attractions that emerged during the exploration showed several locations based on the geomythology and topography of places in the Bandung Basin Area, then using the story as an effort to secure ‘Sangkuriang’ as an intangible cultural heritage and promote tourist attractions related to the folktale.
