Review Process Policy

BARISTA: Jurnal Kajian Bahasa dan Pariwisata applies a rigorous and transparent peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity of all manuscripts submitted for publication.

The journal generally uses a double-blind peer-review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts are first screened by the Editorial Board to assess:

  • relevance to the scope of the journal;

  • compliance with the journal's author guidelines and manuscript template;

  • originality and academic quality;

  • completeness of the manuscript;

  • ethical considerations; and

  • potential plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected before peer review.

2. Assignment to Reviewers

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to qualified and independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area.

Normally, manuscripts are reviewed by at least two reviewers. The Editorial Board may appoint additional reviewers when necessary.

3. Double-Blind Peer Review

BARISTA uses a double-blind peer-review process. The identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential during the review process.

Authors should therefore ensure that the submitted manuscript does not contain information that unnecessarily reveals their identity.

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers are asked to evaluate manuscripts based on relevant academic and ethical criteria, including:

  • originality and novelty of the research;

  • relevance to the journal's scope;

  • clarity of research objectives and research questions;

  • adequacy and appropriateness of the methodology;

  • quality and relevance of data and analysis;

  • theoretical and/or practical contribution;

  • coherence of the discussion and interpretation;

  • clarity and organization of the manuscript;

  • quality and adequacy of references;

  • validity of conclusions; and

  • compliance with research and publication ethics.

5. Reviewer's Recommendation

After evaluating the manuscript, reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:

  • Accept — the manuscript is suitable for publication with no or only minor editorial changes.

  • Minor Revision — the manuscript requires limited revisions before publication.

  • Major Revision — substantial revisions are required and the manuscript may be subject to further review.

  • Reject — the manuscript does not meet the journal's academic, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements.

The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or authorized editor and is not determined solely by the recommendation of an individual reviewer.

6. Revision Process

When revisions are required, authors must submit a revised manuscript within the period specified by the Editorial Board.

Authors should provide a clear response to reviewers' comments and indicate how each substantive comment has been addressed.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

7. Editorial Decision

The Editorial Board makes the final decision based on the reviewers' evaluations, the quality of the revised manuscript, the journal's standards, and other relevant editorial considerations.

Possible final decisions include acceptance, further revision, or rejection.

8. Confidentiality

All manuscripts submitted to BARISTA: Jurnal Kajian Bahasa dan Pariwisata are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not disclose manuscript content or use unpublished information for personal, academic, or professional advantage.

9. Reviewer Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. A reviewer should decline the assignment when a conflict may compromise their impartiality.

10. Review Integrity

The journal does not tolerate manipulation of the peer-review process, including fabricated reviewer identities, inappropriate attempts to influence reviewers, or other activities intended to compromise the integrity of peer review.

Any suspected manipulation will be investigated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy and relevant COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) principles.

Estimated Review Timeline

The duration of the review process may vary depending on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, revision requirements, and editorial workload. The Editorial Board will make reasonable efforts to process manuscripts in a timely manner while maintaining the quality and integrity of peer review.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a specific period.
