Conflict of Interest

BARISTA: Jurnal Kajian Bahasa dan Pariwisata is committed to ensuring that all manuscripts are evaluated and published in a fair, transparent, and unbiased manner. Authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process are required to disclose any potential conflict of interest that could influence the research, review, editorial decision, or publication process.

Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest may arise when an individual has financial, personal, professional, academic, institutional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their judgment or objectivity.

Potential conflicts may include, but are not limited to:

  • financial relationships or funding related to the research;

  • employment or consultancy relationships;

  • personal or professional relationships with authors or institutions;

  • academic competition or collaboration;

  • ownership of intellectual property or patents;

  • affiliations with organizations that may benefit from the publication; or

  • other circumstances that may affect, or appear to affect, the objectivity of the research or publication process.

Authors

Authors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest at the time of manuscript submission.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors should explicitly state:

"The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest regarding the publication of this article."

Any financial support, sponsorship, institutional affiliation, or other relationship that could influence the research should also be clearly disclosed.

Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any conflict of interest that could affect their impartiality. Reviewers should decline the review invitation if they:

  • have a personal or professional relationship with any of the authors;

  • have recently collaborated with the authors;

  • have a direct academic or professional competition with the authors;

  • may benefit financially or professionally from the publication; or

  • have any other relationship that could compromise their objectivity.

Reviewers must also maintain confidentiality and should not use information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.

Editors

Editors must disclose and manage any conflict of interest related to submitted manuscripts. An editor should not handle a manuscript when there is a personal, professional, financial, or academic relationship that could influence the editorial decision.

When a conflict exists, the manuscript should be assigned to another qualified editor whenever possible.

Management of Conflicts of Interest

The Editorial Board will assess disclosed conflicts of interest and determine appropriate measures to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the publication process.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may:

  • request additional disclosure from the authors;

  • assign a different editor or reviewer;

  • request clarification or additional documentation;

  • publish a conflict-of-interest statement with the article; or

  • take other appropriate editorial action.

Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may result in further investigation and, where necessary, correction, expression of concern, or retraction of a published article.

BARISTA: Jurnal Kajian Bahasa dan Pariwisata follows recognized publication ethics principles, including relevant COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidance, in managing conflicts of interest.
