Conflict of Interest Policy
Conflict of Interest Policy
Jurnal Masyarakat Pariwisata (MP)
Jurnal Masyarakat Pariwisata (MP) is committed to ensuring transparency, objectivity, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. The journal recognizes that conflicts of interest may arise when financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships could influence, or be perceived to influence, the preparation, evaluation, or publication of a manuscript.
All authors, editors, and reviewers are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest to maintain the credibility and impartiality of the journal.
1. Definition of Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest occurs when an individual's personal, financial, professional, or institutional interests may compromise, or appear to compromise, their judgment or responsibilities in the publication process.
Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:
-
Financial interests: Employment, consultancy, honoraria, research or community service funding, grants, financial investments, or other monetary benefits related to the submitted work.
-
Professional interests: Professional relationships, collaborations, or competing academic interests that may influence the assessment or publication of a manuscript.
-
Personal relationships: Family relationships, friendships, personal disputes, or other close relationships that may affect impartiality.
-
Institutional interests: Affiliations with institutions, organizations, tourism businesses, community groups, or funding bodies that may benefit from the publication.
-
Competitive interests: Academic, professional, or commercial competition that could influence the handling or evaluation of a manuscript.
The existence of a conflict of interest does not necessarily mean that misconduct has occurred. However, failure to disclose a relevant conflict may undermine the transparency and credibility of the publication process.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
All authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Masyarakat Pariwisata (MP) must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may be relevant to their work.
Authors should disclose, where applicable:
-
Funding or financial support received for the community service activity or manuscript preparation.
-
Relationships with sponsors, partner organizations, tourism businesses, government agencies, or community organizations involved in the reported activities.
-
Personal, professional, or institutional relationships that could influence the interpretation or presentation of the results.
-
Any involvement of funding bodies or external parties in the design, implementation, evaluation, or reporting of the activities.
If no conflict of interest exists, authors must include the following statement in their manuscript:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
All disclosures must be accurate, complete, and submitted with the manuscript.
3. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors must handle all manuscripts objectively and independently, without allowing personal, financial, professional, or institutional interests to influence editorial decisions.
Editors must:
-
Disclose any conflict of interest related to a submitted manuscript.
-
Refrain from making editorial decisions on manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
-
Assign the manuscript to another qualified editor who can manage the editorial process independently.
-
Maintain the confidentiality and impartiality of the editorial decision-making process.
Editors who are authors or co-authors of a manuscript must not participate in decisions concerning the peer review or publication of their own work.
4. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before agreeing to review a manuscript.
Reviewers should decline an invitation when their relationship with the authors, institutions, funding bodies, or subject matter could compromise their impartiality.
Potential conflicts may include recent collaboration with the authors, direct competition, personal relationships, financial interests, or institutional affiliations that could affect the objectivity of the review.
If a conflict becomes apparent during the review process, reviewers must promptly inform the editor so that appropriate action can be taken.
5. Funding Disclosure
Authors must acknowledge all sources of financial and non-financial support related to the reported community service activities and manuscript preparation.
Funding information should identify the supporting organization or institution and, where relevant, describe the funder's role in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of the activities.
If the funder had no involvement in these aspects, authors may state:
“The funder had no role in the design, implementation, evaluation, or reporting of the community service activities or in the preparation of the manuscript.”
Authors should ensure that funding disclosures accurately reflect the circumstances of their work.
6. Management of Conflicts of Interest
Jurnal Masyarakat Pariwisata (MP) evaluates disclosed conflicts of interest on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the nature and significance of the conflict, the journal may take appropriate measures, including:
-
Requesting additional information or clarification from the relevant individuals.
-
Reassigning the manuscript to an independent editor or reviewer.
-
Requiring additional disclosures in the published article.
-
Implementing safeguards to ensure an impartial review process.
-
Declining to proceed with a submission if the conflict cannot be adequately managed.
-
Taking corrective action if an undisclosed conflict is identified after publication.
The journal aims to manage conflicts fairly and proportionately while protecting the integrity of the editorial process.
7. Post-Publication Disclosure
If a relevant conflict of interest is discovered after an article has been published, the journal will assess the circumstances and determine whether corrective action is necessary.
Depending on the case, the journal may publish a correction, an editorial notice, or another appropriate statement to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
8. Commitment to Transparency
Jurnal Masyarakat Pariwisata (MP) requires all authors, editors, and reviewers to act responsibly and disclose relevant conflicts of interest throughout the publication process.
Disclosure of conflicts of interest supports fair peer review, responsible reporting of community service outcomes, and public trust in the journal's published articles.
This policy is intended to be consistent with recognized publication ethics principles, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
